After reviewing our first filming day, we realised there were some changes that needed to be made for our second filming day, as we still had a lot to film. These changes included our choice of location and camera shots.
One change we made to our location was changing it from Brixton to a local park. We wanted to film in a park as this is where our character spends a lot of his time, due to the fact that he is homeless. We filmed many shots in this park, ranging over many different locationswithin the park. For example, inside the play area, to emphasise that our character misses his childhood - when everything in his life seemed okay and safe. The next location covered in the park was behind a brick wall. This plain background helped bring all focus on our character. We felt this was effective because the audience would sympathise with him and really feel like they are being brought into his difficult life.
Additionally, we added certain camera shots into this second day of filming as we felt there were a few important ones we missed out on in the first day of filming. An example of one being a pan shot. We used tools inside the play area to help us with this shot: the roundabout. Our actor stood on the roundabout with the camera and cameraman, whilst our other group member slowly spun the roundabout, producing a lovely pan shot of the park while the character managed to stay completely still. This shot was effective because it symbolises the world around our character growing and moving on, whilst our character cannot grow, due to his illness. Another shot we added to this filming day was a wide shot of our actor, expressing his surroundings: emptiness in the park. This shot was effective because it shows how our character is lonely and has nobody around him to help him throughout this depression, a sad reality of the life of many who are depressed. However, we did not add this shot to the final cut of our film as we felt it didn't fit in with the sequence well enough.
We were much more well prepared for this day of filming as we had learnt from our mistakes of our last filming day. For instance, we made sure the camera was fully charged, meaning we could film as much as we needed to that day. Also, we started filming in the early evening so we coud capture shots both in the light and in the dark. This was done to show how our character doesn't have a motive for his day.
Another factor which helped in making this filming day so successful was the fact that we managed our time so well. Every shot recorded was done in good time, leaving us with enough time to film the next planned shot. We finished at a good time too, meaning that nobody found any difficulty getting home.
Overall, this filming day was extremely successful and we now have a variety of shots which we can use in our final cut as we fully commence our editing process.
